Description

Pals and its ancient territory possessions route brings us closer to the surroundings of Pals, a combination of woods, dunes, beach and marshlands. This tour starts in Gualta, the first village that we will ride through until we reach the old 17th C flourmill. Following the path, we will come across Fontanilles, a tiny village in the heart of the Emporda region, where it feels like time has stood still and where we can enjoy the quet of the countryside. To the South you will find the village of Fontclara, where you can clearly see an urban area from medieval times, where a Romanesque church of the 11th C stands. Moving on downhill, we reach the edge of the municipality of Pals, which includes the village of Pals, the Masos of Pals and Pals beach.

It is one of the most interesting municipalities of the region from the point of view of natre and history because of its diverse landscape and its rich heritage. The old centre of Gothic origin, perched on the top of Puig Aspre hill, is one of the most admired aspects of the Baix Emporda region. Josep Pla wrote, "Pals deserves not one visit but a hndred, because its location gives you the chance to see one of the most beautiful and unforgettable landscapes of the country". A viewing point has been named after this famous writer in his honour, from which there is a wonderfur panoramic view of the plains of the Baix Emporda and the Medas Islands. And now for the most adventurous part, a rocky and sandy path, which will test your skills as a cyclist.

Finally, we will have the opportunity to admire the Aiguamolls of the Baix Ter (Marshlands of the lower Ter river) and to have a dip at the Fonollera beach, which will cool us off for the return to our Burricleta centre, first going past the mouth of the river Ter.
